Interclubs Singles 2017-18

PreviousPage 3 of 3

A reminder of the above schedule for this weekend's Inter-clubs event.

I unfortunately now have to work as the Newcastle meeting has been switched to the Sunday from Saturday which is a nightmare in more ways than one.

If anyone can help out refereeing the semi-finals which will kick off no earlier than 6pm then please let me know on here or by text. I will ask if the losers from early matches to stay on and ref 2nd lot if possible. This has worked well in the past.

The following prize fund has been agreed with the Treasurer and Sponsors, and for consistency is the same as the Handicap Singles:

Dress code for QF/SF, polo/shirt, trousers shoes etc

Waistcoat required for Final only.

Winner £200

Runner-Up £100

Losing Semis £50 x 2

Highest Break £50

Total Prize fund £450.

Good luck all, I will see you as soon as possible on the night, please all come along to help/support if possible as again lots of effort goes into organising/running these events.

Good luck to all the lads who are playing today

All the best to Mark & Barry in final

two great players

Congrats to Barry on winning this season’s Inter-Clubs, defeating Marc 5-2 in tonight’s final.

Marc Davis 2 vs 5 Barry Smith

54             -         95
90             -         10      (Davis 52)
27             -         63
95             -          0       (Davis 47,48)
57             -         64
46             -         55
19             -         70

With the help of some excellent safety Barry took the opening frame of this year's final held at Culter Mills Social Club. Mark hit back in frame 2 with a quickfire 52 to level the match. The pair traded the next two frames to go into the interval at 2-2.
After the interval Barry's superb safety game helped to force a few openings and 2 superb long pinks were enough to see him move into a 4-2 lead. Barry got the first chance in the 7th frame and some excellent potting helped him build up an advantage that Marc was unable to claw back, and Barry took it comfortably to run out the 5-2 winner and register his first Inter-Clubs title after many Runner-Up appearances.

Marc took the Tournament high break prize with a 107 in Round 1 and also had a superb 106 in his semi-final win over his team-mate Mark Oaten.

Well done Barry, richly deserved success, well played to Marc over the weekend, and also a big well done to Alan Pedelty and Mark Oaten from 22 Club for reaching the Semi-Final Stage.

Thanks to all who attended, to Sandy for Directing and to all those who helped with refereeing duties over the weekend, especially Paul Hardy who handled the Final excellently. Cheers.

Pictures I believe are up on Facebook.
