Aberdeen Singles 2017-18

PreviousPage 3 of 4Next

Darren, it certainly was a great match had everything and unfortunately there had to be a loser you were so close and I got a couple of lucky breaks when it mattered.

Those things used to happen to me when I was your age but thankfully as I got older I have managed to learn to find a way to get the results and I am sure this will happen for you.

I enjoyed the chat with you after the game, I love your attitude to the game and you are hungry to develop further, good luck for the remaining games and a good run in the NOS. Heres hoping you can force yourself into the squad for the county championship.

Cheers

Barry

Anybody got an update on results and draw?

Best of luck to Barry and Paul in the final. Hopefully a decent crowd for you both. Well done everyone else who made the venue, shows Aberdeen's strength in depth again.

Well done to Paul Hardy capturing his second  Aberdeen Singles title with a 5-4 victory over Barry Smith.

Barry won the opening frame of the contest, only to see Paul hit back with a nice clearance of 34 to level at 1-1. A superb break of 81, the highest of the tournament, saw Barry race into a 2-1 lead. A big turning point came in Frame 4, Paul forced a free ball situation from which a break of 30 ensued, to level up the scores at 2-2 at the interval.

Paul took the first two frames after the interval to go 4-2 in-front and was looking like making a strong start to Frame 7 when an unfortunate bounce out stopped him in his tracks. Barry fought back impressively with some superb potting and after Paul had got the 2 snookers he required in Frame 7, Barry sunk a full length Pink much to his relief, and it was still game on at 4-3. Barry took frame 8 to take us to 4-4 and send the match to the final frame it deserved. The decider was nip and tuck, and after a exciting safety battle, Barry left no more than a half chance to Paul, but that was all he needed as he cleared Brown, Blue and Pink superbly under pressure, to take the frame and secure the title.

Well done Paul, fantastic win, and great credit to Barry for playing his part too in a memorable final and showing fantastic sportsmanship in defeat.

Thanks to all those that helped with refereeing, especially to Ross for officiating the final, never easy with the miss rule in operation in particular. Good job.  And of course to Sandy and the Culter Mills Club for once again hosting the event.

Well done all. Pictures I believe are up on our Facebook site and the Homepage.
